Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is being used as a revisional procedure for patients who have failed gastric banding due to inadequate weight loss or complications. This study evaluated 44 patients who underwent LSG after a failed laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB). The results showed that LSG can be performed safely as a one-stage procedure with a mean operative time of 96 minutes and hospital stay of 3 days. Patients experienced a mean excess weight loss of 76.9% at 16 months follow-up. LSG is an effective option for revisional surgery after LAGB failure that can be performed safely and results in significant weight loss.
