3. Introductions
Hi, I’m Dr. Phill.
Welcome to Visual Rhetoric. I’m going to briefly
introduce myself and have Max, our TA, introduce
himself.
4. Your Turn…
Please pair off, choosing a partner who is someone you don’t already know.
You’re going to interview and introduce that person. Make sure you get the
following information:
1) The person’s name
2) What they go by, if they don’t go by their first
name
3) Their major/year
4) Something interesting to help us remember them
5. The syllabus
You can find all the syllabus and course information at
the course website:
www.phillalexander.com/visrhet
7. Activity
The best place to start any course is by defining the subject. So to
start out, today, we’re going to define visual rhetoric.
I’d like you to stick with your introduction partner for this activity.
Using what you know, and scouring around a bit, I want you to
construct your own definition of visual rhetoric.
When you finish, email it to me at alexanp3@miamioh.edu .
You can find some helpful links on my Tumblr, linked from the
course website.
8. Tumblr
Before we leave, I want you to go to www.tumblr.com
and create your course Tumblr then email me the URL.
I will show you how to register and set up and where
to get the URL on the projector.
Email those URLs to alexanp3@miamioh.edu
9. Homework
For next class, we have two things to accomplish:
1.Read chapters 1-3 in Williams
2.Begin the In-Design tutorial. I’ll show you those directions
on the course website
In class on Wednesday we’ll do our first little bit of design
work and talk more about key concepts.
