Hodja Nasrettin and the Dragon - Recreating Stories
1. Nasrettin Hodja and the Dragon
Once upon a time, there was a huge
green dragon living near the mountain in
the darkest cave. It was incredibly
modern and polite one, but sometimes it
was getting as cunning as a fox.
2. Near the cave of dragon, there
was the house of Hodja, who was
very wise and known as the
funniest person of all the world.
3. One day, Hodja goes to the dragon
cave and ask for a pot to cook his
meal. The dragon hesitates at first
but gives the pot to Hodja.
4. Hodja gets the pot and uses it for one
week. After one week, when the dragon
comes for his pot, Hodja tells him that Pot
gave birth to a little pot during the week.
The Dragon couldn’t believe it but it was
good for him so he takes both of the pots
from Hodja and goes back to his cave with
pleasure.
5. The time passes quickly and one month later, Hodja goes to cave
for pot one more time. The dragon gives it without
hesitation, because last time it gets two pots. The Hodja goes
back to home. The Dragon waits for the pot one week but there
was no pot. Two weeks: no pot. Three weeks: no pot. Finally, He
couldn’t wait and decides to ask for it to Hodja. When he asks for
the pot, this conversation takes place:
Hodja: I am sorry my dear neighbour. Your pot has died.
Dragon: What do you say, Hodja? How can a pot die? It is not
alive.
Hodja: If you believe that it can give birth to another one, so why
don’t you believe that it can die as well?
