We are Ali Badri and Paul Flores, your facilitators.In our journey together this week, we will:•Define motivation to come to a common understanding needed to build our knowledge;•Discuss the roles and responsibilities of instructors, students and motivational content as each component interacts in the distance education (DE) setting;•Read about current motivational research and applying it in DE;•View motivational video clips, and•Engage in a discussion with one another on implementing motivation in your own actual or factious DE course.Upon Completing Module 9, you will be able to:•Define motivation and identify the roles and responsibilities of instructors, students, and content as these components interact in the DE setting;•Understand various motivational models and how they relate to DE as a basis in theory•Reflect on, develop, and communicate your personal motivational strategies using a theoretical model of your choosing.As in the past, this module is presented in four parts. You are reading the first part, the Introduction. The second part is the Content page, which contains a PowerPoint presentation with accompanying audio file, a YouTube video clip and a checklist. The third part is the Activities page, which contains another YouTube video clip, a reading assignment, suggested questions for you to reflect on what you learned in this module and your own experiences to enter into discussion with your classmates. In part 4, Summary, we tie it all together.
