-> Military organizations as the biggest community of S1000D users with over 20 years implementation experience. Although various operating models can be identified under the organizations/nations, they report on similar challenges.
-> DIG as an interest group recognized this and started the last two years a called “MilDex” Program. The aim of this effort is to achieve harmonization, to apply lessons learned and to support national/multinational S1000D implementation.
-> Under the name of S1000D DIG Business Rules - S1000D DIGBR - the Defense User can find a common view of business rules developed and evaluated by DIG as a good starting point for projects. But does this strong belief match with reality? How can nations benefit from the DIGBR?
-> The presentation gives an insight in the content of the DIGBR, a feedback of the challenges that have been faced after the first steps in the harmonization’s work, as well as the approach of some nations concerning the implementation of the DIGBR.
DIGBR is a set of business rules decision points and decisions as a common approach of DIG nations for implementing S1000D as applicable to defense projects.
DIGBR lean on the S1000D „Layered Approach“ and
DIGBR shall be used as a basis for new projects to reduce start-up effort and resources.
DIGBR tailor S1000D to defense projects within the S1000D approach of layered business rules and provide guidance, proceedings and examples.
DIGBR aim as providing, in a practical sense, a common set of business rules and additional regulations specific to defense projects, in accordance with the specification S1000D, its development and the needs of the defense organizations.
DIGBR are applicable to all published issues of the S1000D - which means ready for each individual project!
DIG 12.03 -> Decisions on the Word document:
No MilDex in the title of the Word document;
Remove the SVG Profile and Cost Impact annexes, but leave in what Joakim (about costs) added in the body part of the document.
Clean up the whole document (leave review marks out);
Give the group a 30 days review after the clean up.
Action #0113: NSPA will change the document and the end result will be three separate documents: DIG BRDP document; SVG profiles document and a Cost Factors document. Deadline for NSPA: first week of August. After that, 30 days review period.
DIG Challenges faced by developing common BR:
1- expectations at the beginning
2- Engagement/participation of members
3- Statistics
4- How to deal with different spec issues, which one is to choose for DIGBR (in case we started with issue 4.1)?
The main challenges we faced during the 2 years period …
Nations to report how and if they want to apply DIGBR….
For all this projects NSPA uses a superset of the DIGBR. NSPA has consensus of 128 BR and the DIGBR is a subset of this.
Conversion from paper to S1000D 4.1
Conversion from S1000D previous issue 1.7 - 4.0.1 4.1
Conversion from Raster to Vector graphics including hotspots
New S1000D implementation
AGS = Alliance Ground Surveillance
FMVs general Business rules have been out for a couple of years already. Today the version 2 of FMV BR is released. The version 2 give the statement that the normal S1000D issue to use for new FMV project should be issue 4.1.
This also goes in the line with the DIGBR because they are also based on issue 4.1. FMV BR version 2 is released before the finalization of the DIG BR; therefore, there might be some differences between them. For today, we have not yet find any differences.
Within the Bundeswehr, we take care of having our National Style Guide aligned with the decisions in the DIGBR so that our future developments stay aligned to the committment that we developed with other nations within the DIG. We espect to reduce the gap between national and multinational projects.
Future Targets:
1- what could we don‘t complete?
2- What was to early to agree
3- What comes next?
4- What are our perpectives at all in the futrure?
This presentation was about sharing a snapshot of the tremendous efforts deployed by DIG in the recent time and to give insight on the update since user forum 2015.
The benefit of the DIG effort is more in the way to the results than in the final statistics. Indeed all nations work to attend harmonization and interoperability, which cannot be achieved without common standards as baseline for products.
The theme of this user forum "Affordable product support using common standards - Experiences and expectations“ meets the essence of DIGBR and the vision of DIG as a user and interest group.
