2. Mitreo or S. Maria del Parto, Sutri. The Mitreo Sutri is now considered the 'hidden jewel' of the city. The Mitreo is located a short distance from the amphitheater continuing parallel to the Via Cassia and dug directly into the tuff at the foot of the hill Savorelli. The environment shows all the characteristics common to Mitreo: small underground rooms, low light and lack of architectural exteriors presume that they make their presence. The cult of the god Mithras from the east entered the Italian peninsula at the end of the first century. D. C. and spread very rapidly through the military and propaganda slaves. The cult, which had much in common with Christianity, had the sacrifice of the bull by the cosmic God a pivotal episode, the metaphor of the victory of order over chaos and barbarism. The Mitreo Sutri may have been derived from the combination of several tombs of the Etruscan and Roman period. The Mitreo was converted into a church dedicated to Archangel Michael, the figure of the finds made in the fresco on the ceiling of the chancel. Only in 700 the church was dedicated to the Madonna and Child as is confirmed from the picture behind the altar. Upon entering the entrance hall you can admire frescoes dating from the mid-fourteenth century, depicting the Madonna and Saints, the legend of St. Christopher and St. Michael Gargano with a procession of pilgrims heading toward the sanctuary of Puglia. In the fresco is shown in detail the clothing of the pilgrims: the coat, hat, purse (a type of bag) and the drone (stick to travel and defense)
3. I l Mitraismo si inizia a trovare nelle culture asiatiche di oltre1500 anni a.C
4. Con l’avvento dell’impero Romano fu introdotta dagli schiavi in Italia e, in ampie zone dell’Europa ,dai soldati nelle guerre di conquista
