ある a ru⇒ あり a ri ます （polite form)
ありa riません（negative form)
ありa ri ますか (question form)
*These “ある”are used when you describe
“Inanimate things”

5. Questions
As to “植物(plants)”, which should
we use”いる or ある”?
⇒In general, ”植物(plants)” are
categorized as inanimate! SO we use
“ある（あります）”.
例）公園に木があります。

＊These “いる”are used when you

（い）ます。/ あそこに山下教授がいます。
5. 私は子供（こども）がいます。(lit., 子供がい
ます。）

9. 第４課 1 Xがあります/ います Ⅱ
1. はい、あります。/ いいえ、ありません。
2. 月曜日（げつようび）に日本語のクラス
があります。
3. 日本に友だちがいます。/ 日本に友だちが
いません。
4. 兄（あに[older brother]）・弟（おとうと
[younger brother]）・姉（あね[older
sister ]）・妹（いもうと[younger sister]）が
います。/ いいえ、いません。

10. 比較（ひかく）/ Comparison
A is more ~than B
⇒AはBより~です/ AのほうがBより~です
Ex) 日本はイギリスより大きいです。
or
日本のほうがイギリスより大きいです。
(⇒Japan is larger than the UK.)

A is the most~ [among -]
⇒[-の中で] Aは一番（いちばん）/最（もっ
と）も~です
EX)ロシアとフランスと日本の中で、どこが
一番寒いですか。
(⇒Which country is the coldest, between
Russia, France and Japan?)

 A is more ~than B
⇒AはBより~です/ AのほうがBより~で
す
 A is the most~ [among -]
⇒[-の中で] Aは一番（いちばん）/最
（もっと）も~です
