Betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden

Who, which en that zijn betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden.

• who en that gebruik je bij mensen,
• which en that gebruik je bij dieren en dingen.

This is the boy who / that I saw at the mall.
That is the bike which / that I bought yesterday.

• Het betrekkelijk voornaamwoord kan soms worden
weggelaten. Dit mag niet als er meteen na het betrekkelijk
  voornaamwoord een werkwoord staat.

That is the boy I saw at the mall.
That is the bike I bought yesterday.
• Na de komma gebruik je who of which, maar nooit that:
My dad, who is a teacher, called me yesterday.
My cat, which has brown spots, is really cute.

• Als het om bezit gaat, gebruik je bij personen whose:
This is the girl whose bag was stolen.
This is the man whose car is purple.

• Bij plaatsen gebruik je where:
This is the village where my brother was born.
Now show what you know!
