3. USING THE SELF-EFFICACY CONSTRUCT
IN TWO DIFFERENT THEORIES
• In HBM, self-efficacy applies especially to performance of repeated
or habitual behaviors such as physical activity (Rosenstock, Strecher,
and Becker, 1988 Cited by: Glannz)
• TTM, Distinction between decision and action is common to most
stage theories, there self-efficacy becomes critical (Glannz).
• Methods for Increasing Self-Efficacy = Verbal persuasion.
• Positive reinforcement.
• “Integrative Behavioral Model”.

11. PRE-POST SURVEY RESULTS
Self efficacy:
How confident are you that you can engage in
brisk walking for at least 45 minutes each day
next week?
12. CONCLUSION
We think the intervention is effective due to the increasing enjoyment for 5minute walking in both groups.
Qualitative + Quantitative data
More controlled studies are required to test if these improvements will
help participants to overcome future barriers for being active.
Our recruitment strategies were not detailed enough to exclude participants
who already had a high enjoyment of physical activity, which is a limitation of
our study.
In the future
To implement a structured inclusion/exclusion procedure , extend the
intervention time, increase the sample size, individualize SMSs with
participant´s name before the text, implement individualized ways to
deliver the SMS.
