Spring Training for the Bison

After having a hard working and impatient winter, the Bethany Bison Baseball Team headed
down to the Sunshine State from March 11th-19th for their Spring Training. While in Florida, the
Bison went 4-2, and got an idea on what is yet to come in the future of the 2011 season.
Therefore, the goals for this season have been set certainly high after what has been seen from
this team during just these six games.
Bethany had some very impressive offensive performances from 3rd basemen Brad Kubis, who
batted (.429), LF Mike Pegg (.333), and 1st basemen DH Chuck Ziants (.333). The leaders in
RBI category were Brad Kubis and Tyler Dillinger, with both having 5. Kubis has continued his
outstanding young career at Bethany, and is working toward another All-American Award. On
the other side of the spectrum, the key performers on defense were from CF Tyler Dillinger, C
T.J. Zarewicz, and RF Anthony Packer. With Packer now entering his first season in the outfield,
making the change from 2nd base, he has quickly found a feel for the position, and is becoming a
key role for the team. The outstanding pitchers during Florida were from Zack Grayson and Zak
Kozlowski. Grayson recorded his first career shutout and complete game winner against
Earlham, he gave up 5 hits, walked 4 and struck out 2; although most of his outs were with the
help of his defense behind him, the senior still pitched one of the best games in his Bethany
career.
After coming back to Bethany with the winning record of 4-2, Bethany is looking to continue its
winning standards, like last year, by using their upperclassmen leadership, young talent,
excellent pitching depth, and their aggressive hitting tactics. The Bison gained confidence in
2. making a successful run in PAC Conference play in this 2011 season with what was at hand
during their Spring Training trip.
