Prepared by Dr. Lori Hager

Project Director, ePortfolios
September 13, 2007
Ed Tech Committee:
The ePortfolio project thanks you for your support over the last two years, and your
continued interest in the development of the ePortfolio pilot project. Ed Tech funds have
been critical to the development of the project over the last two years, and third year
funding will support the project in its sustainability plan. We are greatly encouraged by
recent developments including the campus-wide ad hoc ePortfolio group, the
development of a new website which will allow greater student access, the
interdisciplinary ePortfolio proposal, and the invitation to speak at the International
ePortfolio conference in The Netherlands in October, 2007. These represent significant
efforts to build interdisciplinary bridges connecting departments and academic,
administrative units, and alumni, to create opportunities to better serve the needs of
students and the campus. We are cognizant of the mandate to utilize Ed Tech funds to
increase student access to the project, and I hope that you will agree that what we have
accomplished so far in the project, and our vision and goals for the third year, serve this
purpose.
This document responds to the Ed Tech committee’s request for a budget proposal for the
third funding of the ePortfolio project. Accompanying materials include our Year Two
Executive Summary and Re-Application, which provides details on our work so far, our
strategic plan for Year Three, and our Interdisciplinary ePortfolio Initiative Proposal.
Accompanying materials provide a synopsis of each year’s goals and outcomes.
Since this project was designed as a three-year pilot, it is critical that the level of funding
for Year Three be maintained so that we can accomplish what we set out to do. A
significant degree of momentum has been generated through our efforts, and the efforts
of our interdisciplinary partners in Journalism and Education. This project design is based
on the best available models for ePortfolios in professional schools and colleges, and
extends the model in a comprehensive and flexible design. Additionally, we would like to
offer to the campus a year-long Interdisciplinary ePortfolio Initiative composed of
professional schools on campus to share resources for the purposes of engaging with the
larger campus community concerning ePortfolio applications.
2. In summary, goals and anticipated outcomes for this year include1:
Beta test new PLONE-based ePortfolio webspace
New ePortfolio website allows students access to ePortfolio accounts, to
create and manage their eportfolios, and which includes a searchable
database connecting students to professional communities. The structure
will be in place to include a department-level course-driven project
gallery, which allows faculty to archive and model exemplary student
work, and includes group collaboration functions. Additionally, the
website allows expansion to a fully private webspace for archiving student
academic work. (See attached materials for detail on research-based web
development vision).
Interdisciplinary ePortfolio Initiative (see attached)
This initiative proposes that the three professional schools involved in the
ad hoc ePortfolio group conduct presentations and workshops throughout
the academic year to communicate with the campus, national, and
international communities about eportfolios generally, and campus-based
project specifically. This includes presentations at Dean’s faculty
meetings, TEP workshops, at the international ePortfolio conference in
The Netherlands, and other conferences to be determined. Plans also
include sponsoring a series of forums or symposium designed to bring
attention to the role of ePortfolios in higher education, best
practices/models, and forums to assess interest in other academic and
administrative units on campus.
PODS-based interdisciplinary ePortfolio workshops and tutors
Continue to model student access to ePortfolios through the AAA
Professional and Outreach and Development for Students office through
advising, ePortfolio workshops, and tutoring. Participating students from
Journalism, Education, and AAA are offered ePortfolio webspace in order
to create, archive, and maintain their professional ePortfolios. This
includes making the ePortfolios available to students for a designated
period of time post-graduation.
We are respectfully requesting that the third year funding sustain at the same level
as Years One and Two. We have built our model in anticipation of this support,
and hope that the interest in ePortfolios supports moving our local project to
wider dissemination. Given that, following is a general outline of the budget lines
to support the third level implementation.

ePortfolio development courses through AAD and PODS, his supervisory capacity for the
ePortfolio tutors, and as web development project director.
PODS (Professional Outreach and Development for Students) 3000
PODS will be the primary delivery mechanism for the ePortfolio advising and course options
offered AAA-wide. This supports Career Intensive ePortfolio course administration, publicity, and
advising.
Lori Hager, Ph.D.
Project Director 6000
This position will be re-conceived this year from a project management role to research and
development as we move into a strategic planning and dissemination phase. First two years of the
Ed Tech grant, these were taken as course buy-outs to allow time for project leadership during
each academic year. Current allocation in consultation with Department.
INSTRUCTION/ADMINISTRATION
GTF (GTF for 3 quarters w/out tuition remission) 6000
The GTF will function as project assistant for project organization, evaluation, and
communication. This 1/4 position will be added to an existing 1/4 time GTF position with an
existing tuition waiver.
Tutors (2 tutors at 10.00/hr for 10hrs/wk each quarter) 6000
This funds 2 ePortfolio tutor positions. Evaluations for the last 2 years demonstrate that the tutors
are critical to the success of students creating, posting, and maintaining their eportfolios.
4. RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, DISSEMINATION
Symposium
And Consultations 6000
Third year goals and strategic planning include the Interdisciplinary eportfolio Initiative (see
attached). Goals include a series of campus presentations, as well as working toward a campus-
wide symposium to bring attention to, to inform, and to create a forum for campus-level
conversations to envision the role of ePortfolios on the UO campus. Jonathon Richter/CATE, and
Helen Barrett would be significant partners in bringing relative constituencies together for these
conversations. May also include bringing consultants and experts to campus, and assist with travel
for research, consultation, and dissemination
Faculty Liaison 1500
Work to develop faculty advisory committee for ePortfolio. Faculty Liaison last year was
instrumental in articulating the needs of the faculty relative to the project.
