The presentation was led by Josh Miller of 3Play Media and Patrick Wirth of University of Wisconsin-Extension, Continuing Education, Outreach & E-Learning (CEOEL). 3Play Media provides captioning and transcription services for UW-Extension. CEOEL serves as the coordinator for University of Wisconsin continuing education programs at all 26 campuses. The presentation covered: - Overview of CEOEL accessibility policies and procedures - Overview of media team captioning and transcription workflows - Discussion of CEOEL strategies for addressing accessibility issues/needs - Showcase of creative uses for transcripts and captions around marketing initiatives - Access to media players and templates (audio, video, narrations, etc.)

UW-Extension Accessibility Policy UW-Extension EEO Policy #7a World Wide Web Accessibility and Internet Program Delivery Systems UW-Extension will comply with all relevant subsections of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. UW-Extension will strive toward meeting the components of the W3C guidelines by establishing minimum standards that are to be followed for all media published or hosted by UW- Extension. Internet Web sites published or hosted by UW- Extension after October 1, 2001 must be in compliance with this policy.
- 10. UW-Extension W3C Guidelines Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Guideline 1.2 Time-based Media: Provide alternatives for time-based media. Guideline 4.1 Compatible: Maximize compatibility with current and future user agents, including assistive technologies.

- 12. Online Courses Video Captions All collaborative degree programs have standard policy to caption all video content Do not provide downloadable transcripts for “meet the instructor” videos, but do for all other course content videos
- 13. Online Courses Video Captions Technical Implementation MP4 files are submitted to 3Play for captioning Utilize VTT files for captioning (HTML 5 player) <video src="video.webm"> <tracksrc="sample.vtt"> </video> Natively supported by latest web browsers including; Chrome, Firefox and IE 10

Online Courses Narrated Presentations Narrated presentations may include mixed media but majority are slides + audio 75% of total media developed for online courses are narrated presentations Chunk information based on instructional concepts Promote processing of information for longer retention

Insert slide # audio clips between each audio file 4. Submit audio file to 3Play 5. Download word doc transcript from 3Play and apply program specific template 6. Images exported from PowerPoint dragged into Word template 7. Long descriptions and titles are inserted where necessary 8. Exported as PDF with author, title and short description provided
