11 tons (13.5 as IAV) 19-21 tons
The absolute empty weight of a vanilla M113A3 Gavin according to UDLP Engineers is 20,989 lbs.
The problem is we don't know exactly what the Army does in weight to a lav3 to make it a
“lav3stryker”, but we do know the empty lav3 is 16.5 tons. If the GDLS/Army claims the basic
lav3stryker is 19 tons empty then subtract 16.5 from 19 tons to get the weight of the junk they add
to make it an “IAV” = 2.5 tons . 117”

3. SIZE MATTERS!
LAV1 and LAV3
12 tons 16-21 tons
4 x LAV1s in a C-17, only 2-3 x LAV3s in a C-17
4. LAV3STRYKER TOO HEAVY AND LARGE:
UNSAFE C-130 LOAD
TOO WIDE:
NO SAFETY
AISLE TROOPS
SITTING IN FRONT
OF LAV3STRYKER 11+ ARMY TROOPS and USAF
CANNOT WALK AIRCREW WILL HAVE TO CLIMB
TO REAR EXITS OVER LAV3STRYKER 1-AT-A-TIME
TO ESCAPE BURNING PLANE…
UNWISE & UNSAFE
6. M113 Gavins LIGHT and SAFE C-130 Load
M113A3 Gavin’s lighter 11-ton weight doesn’t exceed C-130’s
16-ton payload limit nor sacrifices fuel/range; short length allows
Soldiers to sit in front and behind the vehicle; certified for
parachute airdrop M113A3 Gavin’s smaller size
offers a side safety aisle for
exit through rear
ramp/paratroop doors in event
M113A3 of crash landing--no one has
to climb over vehicle!
8. Tracked M113A3 Gavins:
* More x-c mobile, agile, amphibious
* Smaller/Lighter for air transport
* Harder to see and hit
* Can be fully RPG-protected
* More room inside than Lav3stryker
* Combat proven, bullet-proof tracks
U.S. Army needs M113 Gavin IBCTs to be full-spectrum force!
