    The Shape

       the 1950’s women’s clothing was
     In
     notably more ‘wearable’ than previous
     years.

 The flapper age had ended so
     silhouettes were more classical and
     fitted.

 Beltswere more widely used in order
     to define every woman’s shape.
+
    The Hottest Trends
 The most fashionable colors of
    the decade were black and
    white, which were worn
    profusely.

 There was a huge Spanish
    influence, which made red
accents popular as well as stiff
    flares on the hemline

 Chiffon, tulle and velvet were
    the favored fabrics among
    designers in the 1950’s.
+
    Famous Designers
     Many designers were
     extremely fond of Parisian
     couture and Spanish accents
                                       Hubert de Givenchy
 Famous designers of the time
     were:
      Hubert de Givenchy
      Cristobal Balenciaga
      Pierre Balmain
      Coco Chanel (Coco made
       her comeback in 1954,
       when she was over 70
       years old)
+

                      Audrey Hepburn designs at the

 Audrey was an inspiration to
designers because of her petite and
        whimsical yet elegant fashion
+
    Grace Kelly
 Grace Kelly was born in 1929

 She was an American actress who

when she married Rainier III, the
             Prince of Monaco

 Grace wasn’t fond of the racier
             styles that were becoming popular
in the late 1950’s, she stuck to
             conservative styles and expensive
             fabrics

 Many designers used Kelly as
             inspiration for more sophisticated,
             luxurious clothing
+

well known for her risqué way of
dressing and she was and still is a
        cultural icon

 She had a classic movie star appeal
        that was best described as
        glamorous

 Marilyn was an inspiration to fashion
designers for her racy yet glitzy
        styles.
+
                          Elizabeth Taylor

 Elizabeth was born in 1932

is estimated at $150 million) and for
        choosing clothes that accentuated
        her waist and chest

 Elizabeth Taylor inspired designers to
        create colorful and fitted designs
