2. JAPAN’S TSUNAMI + EARTHQUAKE

On March 11th 2011 an earthquake with a
9.1 magnitude hit the east of Japan, killing
15,840 people and leaving 3,926 people
missing. After the earthquake Japan had
over 1000 aftershocks; 60 aftershocks had
the magnitude of over 6.0 Mw, and at least 3
aftershocks had the magnitude over 7.0Mw.
A Tsunami triggered by the quake, reached
10km inland, destroying thousands of
homes and blocking many roads. The
powerful quake and tsunami damages
Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, and
setting off radiation.

hacking. The illegal phone
hacking victims included a missing
13 year old girl, who was later
found murdered. The phone
hacking erased a message the
kidnapper had left for her
parents, and as her parents never
heard the message they couldn’t
do anything about it.

6. THAILAND’S FLOOD

Since July 2011, Thailand has been
facing its worst flood in half a century.
Over 12.8 million people have been
affected by the floods, and currently
there have been 790 deaths. The
water has flooded 58 of Thailand’s 77
provinces; huge areas of farmland
are submerged, threatening this
year’s crops.

7. STEVE JOBS’ DEATH

On October 5th 2011, the famous co-
founder of Apple, Steve Jobs died at the
age of 56. His death was caused by a
form of pancreatic cancer; however he
died peacefully, surrounded by family
members. He was the mastermind behind
Apple’s IPhone, IPad, I Pod, I Mac and
ITunes. Though, not only will he be
remembered for his creations, but more
importantly, his creativity.

8. KIM JONG-IL'S DEATH

North Korea’s Supreme leader Kim
Jong-Il died of heart attack on
December 17th 2011. Kim Jong-Il
died at the age of 69, after 17 years
of leading North Korea. His son Kim
Jong-un is now the new leader of
North Korea, however Kim Jong-
Un’s half-brother, Kim Jong-Nam
says North Korea is heading for a
collapse.
