2. Facial expressions provide a clear indication of how a character is feeling, for
example if someone is smiling then we assume that they’re happy but we may
get a different feeling if there is spooky music in the background. As well as
this in a scene, facial expressions may be used to show how one character feels
towards another and what their relationship is like. Body language is used to
also show how the character is feeling, if they’re tapping a pen or fiddling with
their hands then this shows that they might be nervous or anxious about
something.

3. Sets for a movie are either built from scratch or a lot of time will go into an
existing setting and make it relate to the movie. Settings can also manipulate
the audience to give them an expectation of something then it suddenly
changes and takes a different turn. Props can be used to add a little something
extra to a scene, sometimes they are very necessary and in some films form
part of a clue to the audience.

4. Costume, hair and makeup form an instant clue to the characters personality,
status and job. It also indicates the time era of the film(past, present or future)
and what culture it will center around. In some films the costume can signify
certain individuals, such as a the villains would be wearing dark coloured
clothes to show their personality.

5. Colour in scenes can carry connotations which adds meaning. For example,
Red=Danger/love. Lighting can highlight different characters and objects in
the scene, to make the characters look mysterious you can shade sections of
their face and body.

6. The way objects are placed in a frame can sometimes draw attention to it or to
an important character. Usually film-makers use the positioning of characters
to show the relationship between each person.
