Where Historian fits in the production data flow
Key features of Historian - High speed data collection, data storage and compression, integration with MSSQL, high speed data retrieval, audit trails
Basic configuration of the Historian - practical demonstration showing ease of use
Active Factory - the power of point and click reporting via a practical demonstration of Active Factory Trend, Query and Workbook, example workbook reports
This Webinar will be hosted by our Historian expert Sue Bailey. Sue joined SolutionsPT in 1993. Previously she worked in the Water Treatment industry, then the Pharmaceutical Industry running a microbiological research lab, she moved into IT in 1987. After spending several years lecturing in Higher education Sue is now involved in providing high level support and consultancy and developing the training facility.
Sue is SolutionsPT's Senior Consultant for Historian and Database systems and is experienced in all versions of InTouch, Historian and Active Factory. She has worked with Historian since its release and has been involved in setting up systems in many different industries including Metals, Coal, Quarried Products, Utilities, Food and Beverages and Pharmaceuticals.

3. What the Wonderware Historian Does
The Wonderware Historian bridges the gap between the real-
time high volume plant monitoring and control environment
and the open and flexible business information
environment. The historian:
► Acquires plant data via high-speed Wonderware I/O
Servers, DAServers, InTouch HMI software, Industrial
Application Server, and other devices.
► Compresses and stores the data.
► Responds to SQL requests for the plant data.
The historian also contains event, summary, configuration,
security, backup, and system monitoring information.
2
The historian is tightly coupled to Microsoft SQL Server.
4. It’s all about the Data
Process data is any type of information that is relevant
to the successful execution of a process. The following
types of information are considered part of process
data:
► Realtime data - What is the current value of this tag?
► Historical data - What was the value of this tag every
second last Monday?
► Summary data - What is the average of each of these
five tags?
► Event data - When did that boiler trip?
► Configuration data - How many I/O Servers am I using
and what are their types
3
6. Why am I interested in Plant Data?
To improve performance and quality, while reducing
cost, all of this acquired information must be available
for analysis. Plant data is typically analyzed to
determine;
► Process analysis, diagnostics, and optimization.
► Predictive and preventive maintenance of equipment.
► Product and process quality (SPC/SQC).
► Health and safety; environmental impact (EPA/FDA).
► Production reporting.
► Failure analysis.
